It’s never too late for love

So far, this year is completely sneaking by me. How can January be over already? I thought I had tons of time to get ready for Valentine’s Day. Then, suddenly, I realized that it was next week. And I had put almost no thought into my bracelet!

I had the idea a while ago that I wanted to try my purples this Valentine’s day. To be honest, I don’t have too many choices for typical Valentine’s colours. I intended to get some red X by Trollbeads links, but other things took my December and January bead money. Although I have quite a few red glass beads, I use them frequently so I wanted to go with something different. And I have no pinks. So, by deduction, purples were my logical choice!

Even then, I only have two, so it was clear from the start that this was going to be a bangle.

Next, I picked the Cherub. See, I do have some traditional Valentine’s beads! It usually sits on a necklace since I’m not as fond of beads that sit sideways on bracelets. But, I have been loosening my “rules” over the past year, and the Cherub makes sense on a bracelet devoted to love.

I struggled a bit with what to pick next. I have the heart-heavy Pandora Lotsa Love bead but it didn’t feel right. I have the I Luv U bead, but it’s tiny compared to the others.

And so I reached for Love Hurts. But I was hesitant to put it on my bracelet. While it’s a beautiful bead, it also has a sad element to it. On top of that, as soon as I put it with the purple beads, they immediately made me think of bruises! Lovely Valentine’s thoughts, eh? Yet, somehow, it still seemed like the right choice. It’s about giving your love without worrying about what it will do to your heart. And isn’t that what Valentine’s is about? So to erase the association of bruises, I added Cold Milk. The purity of the white helps balance the darkness of the purples.

And now I just have to hope that my husband’s gift arrives on time. I knew what I wanted to get him weeks ago, but put off ordering it. When I finally submitted the order, it gave a delivery date of February 13th. Eek!

    1. I wouldn’t have gotten the cherub myself normally. But in the picture I saw of it, the face reminded me of my youngest, so I had to get it! It was also at the time when I was feeling some guilt for going back to work (even though we loved our daycare) so I was possibly a little extra sentimental. ;)

I really wasn’t sure how I’d feel about having the cherub on the bracelet since it kind of has to “hang on for dear life”! But it’s growing on me. I don’t wear it that much, even on a necklace. I really need to sort my necklaces – my necklace hanger is looking much like my bead box last year before I organized it. Messy! :D

  1. I love how you made the Valentine’s Bangle that doesn’t follow the usual colors yet has a traditional element. Very creative!

You’ll have to let us know what you got your hubby and if it arrives on time. :)

    1. Thankfully his present arrived yesterday! I was hoping that they had just put a worst-case scenario in the shipping estimate. He likes gadgets, so I got him a media server so that we have one place for our photos and music, etc. How romantic! ;D I’m going to write a little blurb about the memories we’ve shared and and creating new memories to store. :D And I got him a book about zombies in love. We have the first book and our youngest really likes reading it with him (it’s a cute/funny book, not a scary book) and then I found the second book where the two zombies have a baby. So that will be from our kids.

I have an idea of what I might be getting from him. I may be stacking this bracelet on Saturday ;)

      1. I take it he doesn’t check your blog that often since you’ve spilled the beans? :) So glad you got it on time! Zombies in love sound adorable. I’m anticipating pictures of your lovelies after Valentine’s!

        1. No, he doesn’t read this blog, so no risk of spoiling the surprise :D He doesn’t really understand my love for beads. But he occasionally buys me beads for special occasions, so he understands that part of my love for them, I guess! My gifts from him have a bead theme, my gifts to him have a zombie theme … it all works out ;)
